Confidently into the tutorial: Subject-specific support, learning guidance, representation of one's own subject – tutors have multifaceted tasks in supporting courses. To help them prepare for this, the ZQS/Key Competencies offers special training courses and personal consultation hours – which are also conducted by peer tutors.

In addition, we train peer tutors who work as advisors at ZQS/Key Competencies.

Offer for our student advisors

Offer for our student advisors

The peer tutors working in the ZQS/Key Competencies support workshops and independently conduct consultations in the areas of learning and job applications. A comprehensive induction and training concept forms the basis for their work. The training of our peer tutors includes teaching basic didactic and conversation skills as well as subject-specific training with a focus on the respective topic. Regular observation sessions and reflection meetings round off the training.

This training is aimed at student assistants employed at the ZQS/Key Competencies. If you are interested in advising students on topics such as studying, applying for internships and starting a career, please feel free to contact us.

Advantages for peer tutors in the ZQS/Key Competencies are:

  • Advantages for students

For students, support from peer tutors has the following advantages:

    • Support and advice on an equal footing
    • Low-threshold offer through the use of peer tutors
    • Proximity to everyday student life and students
    • Students learn with and from each other (collaborative learning)
    • Similar challenges that increase mutual understanding of situations and promote the exchange of experiences
    • Students find it easier to ask questions that they would not dare to ask their teachers.
  • Training programme schedule

The following illustration shows the training phases for peer tutors. The training usually lasts one semester, but throughout the entire period of activity in the ZQS/Key Competencies, actions in consultations and workshops are accompanied and reflected upon.

    Procedure

The first block covers general theoretical and practical basics on peer learning and counselling. Alongside this, or before the training starts, there are seminars on the basics of counselling and learning together as equals.

The second block covers area-specific topics and strategies and is highly practice-oriented. At the same time, peer tutors observe events or counselling sessions to gain initial practical experience. In later practice, tutors continue to be supported through regular exchanges and learning processes.
