Learning objective-oriented courses (LOK) in ILIAS focus on strong user guidance based on learning objectives. Learning materials and tests are released to learners step by step, so that each person is presented with the materials they need.

Use in ILIAS

An assistant will guide you through the necessary steps for creating a LOK.

  • Defining learning objectives. These determine the questions used, the learning materials provided and the required learning activities.
  • Selecting learning materials/learning activities. These can be learning modules, but also texts, videos, etc.
  • Diagnostic entry test to determine prior knowledge. The respective questions are linked to learning objectives and learning materials so that, depending on the individual test results, learning materials are suggested that correspond to the learning level.
  • Final test. This test checks whether all the necessary learning objectives for successful completion of the course have been achieved.
  • The LOK can also contain several loops between the entry test and the final test.

LOKs are relatively complex and require a careful design phase. Particular attention must be paid to formulating the learning objectives with appropriate granularity – only then can the learning materials be provided in accordance with individual needs. The learning materials themselves must also be sufficiently detailed.
