National Graduate Panel

The National Graduate Panel 2017 is a joint project shared between three research institutes: The Deutsche Zentrum für Hochschul- und Wissenschaftsforschung (DZWH) in Hanover, the International Centre for Higher Education Research an der Universität Kassel (INCHER-Kassel) and the Institut für angewandte Statistik (ISTAT) in Kassel. The gathering of federally representative data on the 2017 cohort of graduates is supported by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF).

For the participating universities, graduates are not just an important instrument in terms of educational quality development and quality assurance. For politicians too, certain aspects in connection with national education monitoring and university governance are of interest. In the past, these differing interests have produced surveys of greatly varying content, which was an added burden for the recipients and meant the data was only comparable to a limited extent.

With the results of the National Graduate Panel, the requirements of education monitoring, the needs of general university research and the uses envisaged by university quality management can be met.

Thanks to the National Graduate Panel, the interests of different user groups are intended to be taken account of, so that double surveying can be avoided.

This year, Leibniz University Hannover’s yearly graduate survey is to be linked to the National Graduate Panel in order to avoid the multiple surveying of graduates.

Of the 75,000 randomly selected graduates from the 2017 cohort in all degree and university types in Germany that are to be surveyed in as part of the National Graduate Panel, 1,100 graduates are from various study programmes at Leibniz University Hannover.

After the publication of the results of the project by the group institutes, the data will be made accessible in a factually anonymised form as a Scientific Use File (SUF), so that external scientists can address research questions using the National Graduate Panels data.

The results of the survey will be published in a form through which neither the identification of individuals nor universities is possible. After the survey is completed, Leibniz University Hannover will receive the results from the LUH graduates who have been questioned as part of National Graduate Panel, together with the results of the LUH graduates who are not part of the National Graduate Panel sample.
