This seminar takes place in English and online via BigBlueButton in Stud.IP.

Course Content:
A 3-day seminar focusing on all the theoretical and practical aspects of making speeches in English. As well as learning about verbal and physical techniques, participants also have the opportunity to work on their own presentations, with video camera practice and analysis.

If possible, students should bring in materials for their own presentations, either that they have made in the past or that they are preparing to make in the future. The practical aspect of the workshop will include:

  • Practice in front of video camera with video analysis and feedback
  • Delivery of own presentations   

Learning Goals:

  • Voice - advice and practice on voice strength, volume, speed, tone and control

  • Breathing - effective breathing techniques for before and during a speech
  • Body Language - posture, gestures, facial expressions
  • Preparing presentations - setting objectives, dealing with nerves, knowing your audience
  • Structuring presentations - openings, formulation, conclusion
  • Rhetoric - delivery, argumentation, persuasion

Study Performance:
Full attendance and active participation, independent involvement in exercises, reflecting on exercises and seminar content, presentation of work results, completion of occurring tasks, independent preparation of content and materials (also between the course days)
