Bachelor Technical Education

Recognition of externally acquired key competencies

Since winter semester 2015/16, ZQS/Key Competencies has been responsible for the transfer of credit points for externally acquired key competencies in the Bachelor’s Technical Education (Areas A, B and C of Professional Skills Development).

  • Background

Following an extensive consultation process, and with the significant participation of student representatives, the Academic Planning Committee has developed a recognition review diagram that brings transparency and predictability to the recognition procedure. This diagram helps students to assess whether the key competencies they have acquired can be accredited before submitting an application.

Key competencies are acquired daily in all areas of life, throughout one’s life. A recognition will never be able to determine whether you have acquired and further developed key competencies in reality; it purely serves the purpose of identifying whether the framework conditions within the meaning of the Examination Regulations are eligible for recognition.

OPTIONS OF RECOGNITION

Recognition Option 1:
A second recognised apprenticeship

If you have completed a second recognised apprenticeship, credit will be transferred. Simply present proof of having passed your apprenticeship, and credit will be transferred.

Recognition Option 2:
Acquisition of other key competencies / case-by-case assessment

In all other cases of the acquisition of key competencies, a case-by-case assessment must be made before credit may be transferred.

  • Step 1: Recognition review diagram

This diagram presents the recognition criteria drawn up by the Academic Planning Committee. Please check first whether your case may be able to meet these criteria. Only then should you proceed to Step 2.

  • Step 2: Contact request by email

Contact ZQS/Key Competencies by sending an email containing the following information:

    • Your name, registration number and degree programme
    • What would you like to have accredited? Title, format, scope and a short description, where appropriate
    • Please confirm that you have already applied the review diagram to your recognition case, leading you to believe that recognition should be possible
    • If possible, enclose scanned copies of written supporting documents and certificates

Within 14 days at the latest, you will receive a reply containing an assessment and a description of what to do next (e.g. recognition, no recognition, lack of supporting documents, an individual consultancy meeting during drop-in hours, where appropriate).

Please wait until you have received this reply mail before contacting ZQS/Key Competencies again!

  • Step 3: Accreditation

The evaluation of your accreditation application will result in one of the following possibilities:

    • Recognition: The explanations and supporting documents you provided by email were sufficient for recognition. ZQS/Key Competencies will then send the relevant recognition form directly to the Examination Office. You will be informed of this by email.

    • No recognition: The explanations and supporting documents you provided by email were clearly insufficient for recognition. You will be informed of this by email. In the event of enquiries or the need for explanation, please contact us.

    • Need for further clarification: The information you have provided does not enable an recognition decision to be made. We will inform you by email whether you need to submit further supporting documents or whether an individual discussion is required.
