1764: Presentations in English: Rhetoric, Structure and Body Language

Course Content:

A 3-day workshop focusing on all of the theoretical and practical aspects of giving presentations in English. As well as learning about rhetoric and physical techniques, participants will also have the opportunity to work on their own real presentations, with video camera practice and analysis.

If possible, students should bring in materials for their own presentations, either that they have made in the past or that they are preparing to make in the future. The practical aspect of the seminar will include:

  • Initial practice in front of video camera with analysis and feedback
  • Writing and editing the content of own presentations 
  • Q+A sessions and roleplays
  • Final delivery of improved presentations

Learning Goals:

  • Voice - advice and lessons on voice strength, volume, speed, tone and control (with practical exercises)
  • Breathing - Effective breathing techniques and practice
  • Body Language - posture, gestures, facial expressions
  • Preparing presentations - Setting Objectives, Knowing your Audience
  • Structuring presentations - Openings, formulation, conclusion
  • Rhetoric - argumentation, useful language, persuasion
  • Delivery - dealing with nerves, visual aids, managing question

Study Performance:

Full attendance and active participation, involving in practical exercises and role play, reflecting of practical exercises, presenting of work results, completion of possible tasks between the course days, seminar language is English.
