Course Content:
Effective communication is vital in many fields. Even the most skilled person will struggle if they cannot effectively convey information in a confident manner. Public speaking allows us to build connections, motivate behaviours and influence decisions. Through practice, presentation and speaking skills can be improved.

This course will examine the composition of effective public speaking including personal confidence in front of an audience, techniques of presentation and persuasion and practical application in English.

Students are expected to create and deliver presentations and speeches live (via Big Blue Button) as well as record and upload videos of their work. Accordingly, all students must have a working camera and microphone to participate. Providing constructive feedback to your peers is an important part of this course and a valuable tool to improve personal skills.

Learning Goals:
This course aims to increase personal awareness and improve individual ability to deliver presentations in English through practice.

At the end of the course, you should be able to,

  • Develop techniques to prepare and deliver a presentation,
  • Improve interaction with an audience
  • Confidently present various types of speeches (elevator pitch, informative, persuasive, etc.)
  • and confidently deliver a presentation in English.

You should also,

  • develop an awareness of personal strengths and weaknesses
  • establish tools for effective communication including giving and receiving feedback.

Study Performance:
Full attendance and active participation, independent involvement in exercises, reflecting on exercises and seminar content, presentation of work results, completion of possible tasks, independent preparation of content and materials (also between the course days).
